Janda Baik
Go for one night, two at most: a cool kampung valley 45 km from Kuala Lumpur, best as a weekend base for river dips and a guided waterfall trek.
Janda Baik is a Malay village in a valley on the Pahang side of the Titiwangsa range, about 45 km and an hour's drive from Kuala Lumpur via the Gombak–Karak highway. Days run 23–28 °C and evenings drop below 22 °C, which is the whole point for city people. There is no real town centre: resorts, homestays and chalets sit along lanes between Sungai Bunus and Sungai Ceringging, and most of what you do is eat, swim and walk. One night covers a river afternoon and a meal; two nights let you add the Ulu Tampit waterfall trek or a Mount Nuang attempt. Come on a weekday if you can — weekends fill with KL families.

Get around
You need a car. There is no useful public transport inside the valley; lanes are narrow, unlit and steep in places. Drive from Kuala Lumpur via the Gombak–Karak highway, take the Janda Baik exit after the tunnel, and follow the signboards to the welcoming arch. Taxis from KL Sentral run about RM100–180 one way (check) and are hard to find for the return leg — book one or arrange a resort transfer in advance. Fuel up before you leave the highway.

- Weekend traffic on the Karak highway back to KL can add an hour or more on Sunday evening.

Low-crime village area; the real risks are wet-season trails, fast-rising rivers and driving narrow unlit lanes at night. Petty theft from parked cars happens at trailheads — leave nothing visible.
