Ixtenco
Go for half a day, not a night: the plaza, the church and the Otomí museum take 2–3 h, and beds in town are thin. Sleep in Huamantla or Puebla.
Ixtenco is a small Otomí town in Tlaxcala, one of Mexico's Pueblos Mágicos, with a 17th-century parish church, a tree-shaded plaza and a corn museum. Almost everything sits within a few blocks of the Zócalo. It works as a half-day stop on the way to Huamantla or La Malinche, not as a base: hotel choice in town is close to nil.
