Istria is a triangular peninsula in Croatia's northwest, 45 minutes to 2 hours from Trieste, Ljubljana and Zagreb by road. The coast is Venetian towns and rocky beaches; the interior is hill villages, truffles and wine. Sleep in one coastal town — Rovinj for the harbour, Pula for transport and Roman sights — and drive or bus out to the rest.
