Isesaki
伊勢崎
Half a day: walk the old post-town streets, see the Isesaki Hachimangu shrine and the Silk Road museum, then move on to Maebashi or Kiryu.
Isesaki is a mid-sized Gunma city with a preserved Edo-period post-town core, a good local history museum and a handful of temples. It works as a half-day detour between Tokyo and the hot-spring towns of Gunma, or as a lunch stop on the Ryomo Line. Most travellers do not need to sleep here.
