Treat Irving as an airport base, not a sightseeing city: 1 night before an early DFW flight, or a half-day for the Mustangs of Las Colinas.
Irving sits against Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport and is split between the office-and-hotel district of Las Colinas in the north and older, more diverse neighbourhoods in the south. Almost everything worth seeing fits in an afternoon; the real reason to sleep here is a cheap bed within minutes of the terminals, with downtown Dallas roughly 30–45 minutes away door to door by TRE or DART with a transfer, or about 20 minutes by car outside rush hour.

Get around
A car is the practical choice: the city is a grid of wide arterials (Belt Line Rd, MacArthur Blvd, Irving Blvd) and freeways, and rush hour on Hwy 183 and I-635 is slow. Without a car, DART's Orange Line has six Irving stops and reaches DFW Terminal A; the Trinity Railway Express links Irving to downtown Dallas and Fort Worth but runs no Sunday service and few Saturday trains.
