Irvine is a planned business suburb of Orange County, incorporated in 1971 and built out by the Irvine Company around UC Irvine. Streets wind instead of forming a grid, gas stations hide inside shopping plazas, and almost nothing is walkable between districts. Its value to a traveller is as a clean, safe, car-based base with fast freeway access to Disneyland, the beaches and John Wayne Airport, plus one of the best Asian food scenes in California.
