Inverkip
Skip as a base unless you are sailing or catching the Wemyss Bay ferry to Bute: one night, or a half-day on the shore walk.
Inverkip is a small Inverclyde village on the Firth of Clyde, best known for its marina and for being one stop before Wemyss Bay, the ferry port for the Isle of Bute. There is a shore walk, a parish church, a hotel with a restaurant and not much else. Most travellers pass through on the Glasgow to Wemyss Bay train, or sleep one night before an early ferry.

Get around
Both Inverkip and Wemyss Bay are small and walkable, and the shore path links them. Bus 903 connects the two and runs on to Greenock, Port Glasgow and Glasgow. Anything away from the A78, such as Loch Thom, needs a bike or car.
