Inuvik
Go only if the Arctic road or midnight sun is the point: 2 nights, June–September, $250–400/day, no crime worry.
Inuvik is the end of the Dempster Highway, 200 km north of the Arctic Circle, and the most populous town in the Canadian Arctic at around 3,400 people. It is a real town with paved streets, a hospital and a mosque, not a frontier outpost. Most visitors arrive by air via Yellowknife or Whitehorse, or drive the Dempster as a destination in itself. Two nights covers the town; three or more lets you add the Inuvik–Tuktoyaktuk Highway or a flight to a national park.
