Innsbruck is the capital of Tyrol and the only Alpine city where a tram from the old town reaches a 2,000 m cable-car station in about 30 minutes. Two nights covers the Golden Roof, the Hofkirche and one mountain day; skiers and hikers use it as a base for a week. It sits halfway between Munich and northern Italy on the Brenner rail line, so it works as a stop between Austria and Italy rather than a detour.

The centre is walkable: Hauptbahnhof to the Golden Roof is a 10–15 min walk. Trams and buses run under the VVT fare system, so one ticket covers tram, bus and S-Bahn inside the city zone. Tram 6 reaches Igls and Schloss Ambras, tram STB runs into the Stubaital, and the Nordkettenbahnen lifts climb from the old town to Seegrube and Hafelekar. Buy 24-hour or multi-trip tickets from machines; validate on first boarding.
