Ilkley is a Victorian spa town on the River Wharfe, 30 minutes by train from Leeds, and the practical gateway to Ilkley Moor. The town itself is small — a museum, a church, a lido and a good spread of places to eat — so most people come for the walking, the moor-edge rock formations and the prehistoric carvings. The town is walkable end to end in about 20 minutes. Trains run to Leeds every 30 min (30 min) and to Bradford Forster Square every 30 min (45 min); Ilkley is a terminus, so Dales connections mean riding back into Leeds. Buses link Otley, Skipton and Keighley. For the moor and the surrounding dales you need a car or stout legs — taxis wait by the station.
