Give Ile Ife one full day and one night: the museum, Opa Oranmiyan and the Ooni's palace area are a half-day, the OAU campus another. Skip it as a base.
Ile Ife is the Yoruba source city: the Ooni's palace, the national museum beside it, the Opa Oranmiyan obelisk and the Oduduwa shrine sit within a few kilometres of each other, and Obafemi Awolowo University's campus and museums sit 5 km east. One night covers it. Roads from Lagos are long and slow, so most travellers arrive from Osogbo or Ibadan rather than direct.
