Ierapetra
Ιεράπετρα
Ierapetra is a half-day stop on a Lasithi road trip: walk the old town and the beach, then move on. One night if you want to hike a gorge or visit Chrysi island.
Ierapetra is the southernmost city in Europe, with a mild winter and a long beach promenade. The old Kato Mera quarter, the Turkish mosque and the fortress on the pier are the main sights. Most travellers use it as a lunch stop or a base for the gorges east of town and the boat to Chrysi island.

- The Turkish mosque is disused and not maintained.
- Last buses from Heraklion and Agios Nikolaos leave in the late afternoon; check the schedule.
Ierapetra is safe. Watch for uneven paving in the old quarter and sun exposure on the beach and hikes. The sea can have jellyfish in summer.
