Go for one night, not a day trip: 340 km from Perth each way. See Wave Rock at opening (08:00–09:00), then leave before the heat.
Hyden is a 377-person Wheatbelt farming town whose only reason to exist on your itinerary is Wave Rock, a 110 m granite wall 4 km east of town. There is no public transport to the rock, no commercial flights, and one bus a week. Come with a car, sleep one night, and treat the drive as the cost of the visit.

Very low crime; the real risks are heat, isolation and wildlife on the road at dawn and dusk. Carry water, fuel up in town, and do not leave the sealed roads without telling someone.
