Huaibei is a coal city in northern Anhui, at the junction of Anhui, Shandong, Jiangsu and Henan, that has turned to ecology and heritage tourism. Its draws are Grand Canal archaeology, a Neolithic site, Han tombs and a mountain road, all spread out and mostly unpolished. It rewards travellers already in the Huai River corridor, not a dedicated trip.
