Hobro
Give Hobro one night, or a half-day stop between Aalborg and Aarhus: Fyrkat ring fortress plus the harbour museums fill 4–5 hours.
Hobro sits at the head of the 35 km Mariager Fjord in North Jutland, on the main Jutland rail line and a few kilometres east of the E45. Its draw is the Fyrkat Viking ring fortress, a UNESCO site, plus a small cluster of harbour museums and a wooden-ship yard. Most travellers see it in half a day or sleep one night on the Aalborg–Aarhus run.

Etiquette, safety and scams
Etiquette
- Greeting: Firm handshake and eye contact; first names at once; avoid: Titles and small talk that goes on too long
- Punctuality: Arrive on time for meetings and dinners; avoid: Being 15 minutes late without a message
- Home visit: Shoes off; bring flowers or wine; say 'tak for mad' after the meal; avoid: Leaving right after eating
- Conversation: Dry humour, directness and self-deprecation; avoid: Boasting — Janteloven frowns on it
- Queues: Take a number (kølapper) where there is a machine; avoid: Pushing to the counter
- Cycling: Signal stops and turns with your hand; keep right; avoid: Riding side by side in busy lanes
- Toasts: 'Skål' with eye contact before and after drinking; avoid: Looking away mid-toast
Scams and watch-outs
- Fyrkat and several small museums keep seasonal hours; check opening days before you travel, especially outside Jun–Aug.
- Some sights close or run reduced hours in winter; the Viking centre and boat trips are summer-weighted.
- Hobro is a small town: last trains and buses run in the evening, so plan the return leg.
- Cyclists have right of way at many junctions; look both ways on cycle paths.
Hobro is a small, low-crime Danish town; the real risks are seasonal closures, evening transport gaps and winter ice on paths and the fjord edge.
