Herrnhut
Go for one night, not a base: the UNESCO Moravian town is a 2–3 h walk, so pair it with Görlitz or Bautzen and arrive by bus from Löbau.
Herrnhut is a small Saxon town of about 5,900 people, 90 km east of Dresden, and the birthplace of the Moravian Church and its worldwide missions movement. The historic settlement was listed as UNESCO World Heritage in 2024. Sights are compact and walkable, but the nearest rail station is in Löbau, so most visits are a single night or a half-day stop between Görlitz and Bautzen.

Get around
On foot. The town is small and the museums, church hall and cemetery are all within a short walk. Buses run to Löbau and Zittau; a car helps for the outlying villages and the Water Castle at Ruppersdorf.
