Herndon is a small Northern Virginia town 10 minutes from Washington Dulles International Airport, on the Silver Line of the DC Metrorail. Almost nobody comes here for a holiday: it is a business and airport base with a compact historic district, a rail-trail and a handful of good diners. Treat it as a bed near the airport plus a short walk, not a destination in itself.

A car is the practical way to move around Herndon and the wider Dulles corridor.
