Hemel Hempstead

Hemel Hempstead is a post-war new town in Hertfordshire with a small old town, a Norman church with one of England's tallest spires, and a canal running through its southern edge. It is 35 minutes from London Euston by train and close to the M1 and M25, which makes it useful as a cheap base or a half-day stop rather than a place to build a trip around. Most visitors come for the Snow Centre, the Warner Bros. Studio Tour nearby, or a night between London and the Midlands.
