Helmond is a former textile and metal town of about 91,000 people in North Brabant, 15 minutes by train from Eindhoven on the Eindhoven–Venlo line. Its draw is a small, walkable core: a 14th-century moated castle that now holds the town museum, a set of 1970s cube houses by Piet Blom, and a canal-side strip of bars and restaurants. It is a half-day or one-night stop, not a base — most travellers sleep in Eindhoven and ride out.

The centre is small enough to walk: castle to Markt is about 5 minutes, Markt to the cube houses about 5 minutes. Helmond has four stations on the Eindhoven–Venlo line, but intercity trains stop only at Helmond station. City buses are thin — many lines have been cut — so plan on walking, cycling or a taxi for anything outside the core.
