The Hejaz is Saudi Arabia's Red Sea coast: Jeddah is the gateway and the sleep base, Medina and Ta'if are the add-ons, and Mecca is closed to non-Muslims. The Haramain high-speed line links Jeddah, Jeddah airport, Mecca and Medina, so you can move between them without a car; AlUla and the north sit 3–4 hours further by road or a short flight.
