Heemskerk
Heemskerk is worth a stop only if you are visiting family, staying with a local, or need a cheap base near the coast. Half a day covers the centre and the marina.
Heemskerk is a small commuter town in North Holland, 30 min by car from Amsterdam and 20 from Haarlem. It has a historic church and a few cafés but no major sights. Most travellers use it as a quiet base or a stop on a bike ride along the coast. The train station is poorly connected; buses from Beverwijk or Uitgeest are better.
