Heath
Heath, Ohio
Skip Heath as a base: 2–3 hours for the Great Circle Earthworks, then sleep in Newark or Columbus, 30–60 min away.
Heath is a small Licking County city built around a retail strip on State Route 79, with no downtown and no mass transit. Its one real sight is the Great Circle Earthworks, part of the Newark Earthworks, a short drive from the Newark-Heath Airport. Most travellers pass through on I-70 between Columbus and Zanesville, or use it as a cheap bed for Newark.

Etiquette, safety and scams
Etiquette
- Greeting: Handshake and 'hi, how are you?' — reply 'good, thanks'; avoid: Treating the question as a real health enquiry
- Restaurants: Tip 18–22% and wait for the check; avoid: Leaving without tipping
- Personal space: Keep an arm's length in queues; avoid: Standing close to strangers
- Politics and religion: Listen more than you speak; avoid: Opening with hot-button topics
- Smoking: Smoke only in marked areas; avoid: Smoking near doors or in parks where banned
Scams and watch-outs
- No bus or rail: without a car you are stuck on the SR 79 strip.
- Winter ice on SR 79 and I-70 ramps; summer thunderstorms bring brief heavy rain.
- The retail strip has no sidewalk network between most hotels and restaurants.
- Earthworks grounds are open-air and unshaded: bring water and sun cover.
Low street crime; the real risks are driving (I-70 traffic, winter ice, deer at dusk) and heat on unshaded earthworks grounds. Lock your car on the retail strip.
