Harleston
Skip as a base unless you have a car: one afternoon on foot covers the centre, and the Waveney valley and Angles Way are the real reason to come.
Harleston is a small working market town on the A143 near the Suffolk border, with Georgian frontages, a Wednesday market and no railway station of its own. Most visitors use it as a bed for the Waveney valley, the Angles Way long-distance path and the surrounding countryside rather than as a sightseeing destination. Two nights is the useful maximum; a car or a bike makes the difference.
