Harker Heights
Skip as a destination. Use it as a budget sleep base for Fort Hood visits or a quick stop on I-14: one night max, no sightseeing.
Harker Heights is a small Central Texas city adjacent to Fort Hood (now Fort Cavazos). It has no major attractions, a handful of chain restaurants and a shopping plaza. Most travellers pass through on I-14 or stay here for military business. The only outdoor draw is Chalk Ridge Falls, a rough 5-mile trail system along the Lampasas River that is best after rain for a quick dip.
