Happy Valley-Goose Bay is Labrador's transport hub, not a sightseeing town: 8,109 people, a former WWII airbase, one big runway and the junction of the Trans-Labrador Highway. Most travellers pass through on the way to North West River, Churchill Falls, Cartwright or the coastal communities north. Two nights lets you see the military museum, swim at Wolverine Bay and drive to North West River; one night is enough if you are only changing planes or filling the tank.

Get around
There is one taxi operator, Cooneys Taxi (+1 709-896-3311). The town runs an on-demand electric minibus on weekdays and Saturdays; rides cost $3 and must be booked in advance by app or website (check the town site for current hours). Distances are short but spread out, and there is no real walking route between the airport and town: plan on a taxi, a hotel shuttle or a rental car. A car is close to essential for North West River, Wolverine Bay and the highway.
