Guruvayoor is a temple town in Thrissur district, about 87 km from Kochi airport, built entirely around the Sree Krishna Temple. It draws 6–10 million devotees a year and the town is small enough to walk. Non-Hindus are barred from the temple complex, so the trip only makes sense for Hindu pilgrims or as a half-day stop between Thrissur and the coast.

Get around
The town is walkable; the temple is the centre and most lodges are within 15 minutes on foot. Autorickshaws and taxis are available but agree the fare before you get in. There are no intra-town buses; inter-city buses stop at the edges of town.

- Darshan closes roughly 12:30–16:00 and 21:15–03:00; check the day's timings before you queue.
- Traffic can jam for hours on festival days; do not plan a tight onward connection.
The town is calm and safe by day; the real risks are queue scams, unlicensed guides, overpriced autos and heat. Fix fares first and keep valuables in the cloak room, not on you.
