Gulpen
Use Gulpen as a 2-night base for the Gulp and Geul valleys: hills, villages and brewery on foot or by e-bike, no train station.
Gulpen is a village of about 4,700 people in the Heuvelland, the hilly south of Limburg, on the old Maastricht–Aachen road. There is no train station, so you arrive by bus from Maastricht or Heerlen, about 30 minutes each. The centre is small; the reason to stay is the surrounding valleys, the villages of Wittem, Epen, Wijlre and Mechelen, and the Gulpener brewery. Two nights covers the village and one full day of hills; three nights adds Maastricht or Valkenburg without rushing.

Get around
The centre is walkable in 10 minutes. For the valleys you need a bike, e-bike or car: rentals are in Gulpen itself, with deposits around €50 and a licence needed for scooters. Buses run along the N278 to Maastricht, Valkenburg, Heerlen and Aachen; there is no train station in the village.
