Gros-Mécatina is a two-village municipality on Quebec's Lower North Shore, reachable only by plane, coastal supply ship or the winter snowmobile trail. There is no road link to the rest of Quebec. Come for seabird islands, salmon rivers, boat trips and a working fishing harbour, not for services: two nights is the practical minimum, and you should confirm your bed and your flight before you commit.

- The winter Route Blanche snowmobile trail is about 525 km from Natashquan and demands fuel, satellite communication, spares and survival gear: go in a group.
- Cell coverage exists in the villages but is thin outside them; do not rely on it on the water or the trail.
