Greenock is a Clyde estuary port of about 45,000 people, 30–40 minutes by train from Glasgow Central. Most travellers pass through to the Gourock and Wemyss Bay ferries, but a compact town centre, a waterfront Esplanade and a James Watt museum justify one night or a half-day between trains. Two nights only if you add Loch Thom or Newark Castle.
