Gravenhurst is a town of about 12,000 on Lake Muskoka, the southern door to cottage country and about 170 km north of Toronto by Highway 400 then Highway 11. Most visitors come for the water, the wooden-boat heritage and the wharf, and use the town for groceries and supplies on the way to a cottage. The centre is walkable and there is no local public transit, so a car makes the surrounding lakes, trails and dark-sky reserve reachable.

Get around
The compact centre is walkable and there is no local public transit. Taxis cover short hops. A car is the practical way to reach the wharf area, the boat museum, trailheads and the dark-sky reserve; Highway 11 and Muskoka Road 169 (Bethune Drive) are the main roads in.
