Granger
Skip unless you want a 30-minute dinosaur photo stop on I-82 between Yakima and the Tri-Cities. Not a destination.
Granger is a tiny Yakima Valley town that put dinosaur statues everywhere — in the park, on the playground, even on the public toilet building. It's a quirky 30-minute break on a road trip, not a place to stay overnight. The Columbia River Plateau has better bases.

Etiquette, safety and scams
Etiquette
- Greeting: Handshake and 'hi, how are you?' — reply 'good, thanks'; avoid: Treating the question as a real health enquiry
- Restaurants: Tip 18–22% and wait for the check; avoid: Leaving without tipping
- Personal space: Keep an arm's length in queues; avoid: Standing close to strangers
- Politics and religion: Listen more than you speak; avoid: Opening with hot-button topics
- Smoking: Smoke only in marked areas; avoid: Smoking near doors or in parks where banned
Scams and watch-outs
- No gas station or restaurant open late — fill up and eat before arriving.
- The dinosaur statues are in a residential park; be respectful of neighbours.
- Check Hisey Park hours online; the volcano-shaped bathroom may be locked.
Very safe. The only risk is running out of gas or food after dark.
