Grand Bend
Go for 1–2 nights in July–August if you want a Lake Huron beach day; skip in winter, when most of the strip is shut.
Grand Bend is a beach village of about 3,000 people on Lake Huron, in Huron County, Western Ontario. On summer holiday weekends the population swells to roughly 50,000. The main strip (Ontario Street) is the whole town: shops by day, bars at night. The Pinery's dunes and 10 km of sand are 7 km south. Two nights covers beach, Pinery and one dinner out; one night is enough if you only want the sand.

Get around
The village is walkable: strip to beach is under 10 minutes on foot. For The Pinery, Lambton Heritage Museum and the winery you need a car, bike or taxi — there is no local bus. Huron Shores Area Transit runs scheduled service from Sarnia and London; check the current timetable before relying on it.
