Skip as a base unless you want a quiet 1-night stop: two sights, no local transport, trains twice a day. Come for the Károlyi Bible museum and Vizsoly.
Gönc is Hungary's northernmost town, a former county seat of Abaúj and the parish where Gáspár Károlyi worked on the first complete Hungarian Bible. It is small: a museum, a heritage house, a mansion and a church, all within a 15-minute walk. Most travellers use it as a half-day stop between the Tokaj wine region and the Slovak border, or as a base for the castles at Boldogkő and Regéc.

Get around
No local bus or taxi in Gönc. The town is walkable in 15 minutes end to end. For the castles, Vizsoly, Telkibánya and the Slovak border you need a car or the regional Volánbusz services, which run a few times a day.
