Golmud
Stop in Golmud only as a brief transit hub for Tibet routes: 4–6 h, one night max, then continue north or south.
Golmud is a high‑altitude desert city serving mainly as a logistics point on the Qinghai‑Tibet railway. It offers limited tourist facilities, so most travellers stay one night to arrange permits or catch a connecting train/bus.

Mandarin is the language of the whole country, written in Simplified characters; Cantonese dominates Guangdong and Hong Kong, and dozens of regional languages survive at home. English is on metro signs, airports and large hotels; elsewhere use a translation app. Pinyin (the romanisation) helps with names but tones change meaning.

- Show destinations to taxi drivers in characters; copy them from Amap.
