Goiânia
Give Goiânia 1–2 nights as a stop between Brasília and the Cerrado parks, not a destination in itself: fly in, see the civic square and one park, eat well, move on.
Goiânia is the capital of Goiás and a planned city from 1933, laid out on a radial plan with Avenida Goiás crossing Avenida Anhanguera at the centre. It is a working city of about 1.4 million, not a sightseeing town: the draw is the art-deco civic core, a handful of parks and museums, and some of the best regional food in central Brazil. Most travellers use it as a one- or two-night stop on the way to Brasília, Caldas Novas or the Chapada dos Veadeiros.

Get around
The centre is walkable but the city is spread out, so plan on Uber or 99 for most hops; a ride inside the central area is usually under R$20. Local buses are cheap but slow and confusing for a short stay. Taxis are metered and easy to find at malls and the airport.

Scams and watch-outs
- Street crime (phone snatching, bag theft) is a real risk in the Setor Central and around the bus station, especially after dark; take ride-hailing at night.
- Do not walk the parks after dusk; Bosque dos Buritis and Parque Areião have had muggings.
- The rainy season (Dec–Mar) brings short, heavy afternoon downpours and flooded roads.
- Some museums and the zoo keep irregular hours or close without notice: check before you go.
Goiânia is fine by day in the centre and the Oeste and Bueno districts, but street theft is common around the Setor Central and the bus station. Carry a cheap phone, avoid empty parks after dark, and use Uber or 99 at night.
