Glenboro
One night, or a half-day stop: Sara the Camel, the museum and Spruce Woods. Sleep in Glenboro only if the park campground is full.
Glenboro is a village of about 600 people on PTH 2 and PTH 5 in Manitoba's Prairie Mountain region, an hour southeast of Brandon and two hours southwest of Winnipeg. It is a farm service centre and the practical gateway to Spruce Woods Provincial Park and the Spirit Sands dunes. Almost everything worth doing sits within a 15-minute drive, so a single night covers it; most travellers use it as a lunch-and-leg-stretch stop on the Winnipeg–Brandon run.

Etiquette, safety and scams
Etiquette
- Greeting: Handshake; 'Bonjour' first in Québec; avoid: Assuming everyone speaks English
- Queues: Line up and wait your turn; avoid: Pushing in
- Apologising: 'Sorry' is politeness, not admission of fault; avoid: Loud confrontation
- Canada vs US: Treat Canada as its own country; avoid: Calling Canadians American
- Indigenous culture: Buy from Indigenous-owned businesses and ask before photos at ceremonies; avoid: Wearing headdresses as costume
Scams and watch-outs
- Distances are long and cell coverage thins out on the back roads; carry water and tell someone your route.
- The Stockton Ferry runs only on weekday mornings and late afternoons in season, and closes in winter: check the schedule before driving out.
- Prairie weather turns fast: summer thunderstorms, hail and winter whiteouts on PTH 2 and PTH 5.
- Tick season runs late spring to midsummer in the Spruce Woods grass and dunes; check yourself after hiking.
- Small-town services keep short hours and some close on Sundays.
Glenboro is a quiet farm village and personal safety is not the issue. The real risks are highway driving, winter storms, summer heat on the dunes and thin cell coverage on back roads.
