Ghulkin
Ghulkin is a half-day stop on the Karakoram Highway: walk the circular village, see the old lake bed and the eco-village work, then continue to Passu or Sost. One night if you want the morning light on the glacier-fed fields.
Ghulkin is a 700-year-old village in Gojal Hunza, built on the silted bed of a glacier lake. Its 140 traditional houses face the old shoreline in a ring, with a cricket pitch at the centre. In 2026 it became Pakistan's first eco-village, replacing concrete with mud walls. The village is a quiet, community-focused detour off the KKH, best combined with Gulmit or Passu.
