Ghaemshahr is a mid-sized industrial city in Mazandaran province, 260 km north of Tehran. It lacks the coastal charm of Ramsar or the historic core of Sari, but its central location and transport links make it a practical base for visiting the Caspian region's forests, rice paddies and mountain villages. Most travellers use it for 2–3 nights while exploring the area.
