How to choose your window
Start with what you want to do, not with the calendar. If your trip is Tbilisi, Mtskheta, Kakheti and Kutaisi, aim for May–June or September–October: mild days, working vineyards and no need for snow gear. If your trip is Svaneti, Kazbegi or Tusheti, aim for July–September, when the high passes and the Tusheti road are open (check) and guesthouses run at full capacity.
If you want the Black Sea coast, June–September is the beach window; October and November are the wettest part of the year there. If you want skiing, December–March is the season at Gudauri and Mestia, with January and February the most reliable snow and the coldest temperatures.
Then adjust for crowds and cost. July, August and September are the busiest and most expensive months, especially in Svaneti, Kazbegi and Batumi. February, March and November are the cheapest months, and February and November are also the quietest; you trade mountain access and some coastal and rural services. Shoulder weeks at the edges of each season often give the best balance.
Finally, check the holiday calendar before you book. Early January brings closures for New Year and Orthodox Christmas, Orthodox Easter can fill churches and guesthouses for four days, and the late-September to October rtveli harvest fills Kakheti guesthouses at weekends. Tbilisoba in early October adds crowds in the capital (check).

Notes and caveats
Georgia has several climate zones, so a single national forecast is misleading. Tbilisi and the east run hot and dry in summer and mild in winter; the Black Sea coast is subtropical and wet; the Greater Caucasus is cool even in midsummer and snowbound in winter; Imereti and the south are humid in Kutaisi and cold on the high Javakheti plateau.
Mountain roads are the main practical risk. The Military Road toward Kazbegi can close in winter and spring, and the Tusheti road is only open for part of the year (check). Build a spare day into any mountain plan. Early January is the other trap: many shops and restaurants shut for New Year and Orthodox Christmas, so stock up and confirm openings.
