Genting Highlands
Go for one night if you want the casino, cool air and theme parks; skip it if you came for Malaysian culture or hiking.
Genting Highlands is a 1,800 m resort complex in Pahang, about 1 hour by road from Kuala Lumpur, built around Malaysia's only legal casinos plus theme parks, malls and hotels. Everything at the summit is linked by covered walkways, so you rarely go outside. It is a packaged entertainment hill station, not a heritage or nature destination; most travellers give it one night or a long day trip.

At the summit you walk: covered walkways, lifts and escalators link the hotels, malls, casino and theme parks, and the complex is wheelchair accessible. The Awana Skyway gondola links the Premium Outlet base, Chin Swee Temple and SkyAvenue. Taxis and ride-hailing wait outside First World and Genting Grand lobbies for trips down the hill.
