Gennadi
Gennadi is a beach-and-party village on Rhodes' south coast. Worth a half-day stop for the long sand-and-pebble beach and the Sunday DJ parties at Sundance beach bar, but not a base unless you want a quiet week with one night out.
Gennadi is a laid-back beach village on the south coast of Rhodes, with a 3 km stretch of sand and pebbles, a few tavernas and small hotels, and a lively Sunday beach-bar scene. It works as a half-day stop on a south-coast drive, or as a quiet week-long base if you rent a car. The village sits above the main road; the beach and bars are below.

Etiquette, safety and scams
Etiquette
- Greeting: Say 'kaliméra' (morning) or 'kalispéra' (evening) on entering shops and tavernas; avoid: Launching straight into a question
- Hospitality: Accept offered coffee, sweets or raki; it is part of the welcome; avoid: Refusing flatly — take a little
- Churches: Covered shoulders and knees; quiet voices; a small candle donation; avoid: Turning your back on the altar for photos during a service
- Gestures: Wave with the palm turned towards yourself; avoid: The open palm pushed forward (moutza)
- Conversation: Family, food and football are easy topics; avoid: Lecturing on the debt crisis, Türkiye or the name of North Macedonia
- Dinner at a home: Bring pastries or wine; arrive a little late; avoid: Leaving food on the plate if you have been served more
- Dress: Casual; long trousers or skirt for monasteries; avoid: Swimwear in town, shops and churches
Scams and watch-outs
- Sunday parties at Sundance beach bar draw crowds from all over the island; book a sunbed early or expect noise if you stay nearby.
- Only parts of the beach are commercially organised; the rest is free but has no facilities.
- Many tavernas and shops close from November to March; check ahead if travelling off-season.
- The beach is separated from the village by the main road; cross carefully.
Gennadi is a safe village. The main risks are the main road between the village and the beach (no crossing lights), summer heat and the occasional rowdy Sunday party crowd.
