Gemlik

Pass through, or stop 1 night for Kumla harbour: Gemlik is a working port with an ordinary town beach. Minibuses run the coast to Kumla and Armutlu.

Gemlik sits at the head of its own gulf between Yalova and Bursa, a working port and car-and-pickle town rather than a resort. The sea views on the D575 surprise drivers, but the town centre is modern and the beach strip is ordinary. Most travellers pass through on the way to Armutlu, Iznik or Bursa; one night is enough if you stop at all.

Get around

The centre is walkable in 20–30 minutes end to end. Minibuses run along the coast northwest to Kumla and Armutlu and southwest to Kurşunlu; the Otogar is 500 m south of the centre on the D575. A car makes the waterfalls, Orhangazi and Kurşunlu practical.

  • Summer weekends fill the coast strip; book the beach hotels ahead.
  • Carry small lira notes for minibuses and market stalls.

Gemlik is a small working town and feels safe by day; the real issues are summer heat, unlit roads along the coast at night and swimming near the industrial harbour. Ask the total before you sit at a pier bar with no posted prices.
