Get around
Arrive by car: US 20 and IL 84 meet at the west end of town, and there is no intercity train or bus. Downtown is about 2 mi long and walkable, with free parking that fills quickly on Bench, Main and Commerce; a large pay lot sits on the south bank of the Galena River west of Grant Park. The bluff between Bench and Prospect streets is steep, so plan uphill walks. Trolley tours cover the main sights if you would rather not drive between them.
