Funen is the island the Copenhagen–Aarhus trains cross anyway, so a stop costs you nothing in detour. Odense is the only real city and the only place with a night's worth of sights; the coast towns (Svendborg, Faaborg, Kerteminde, Bogense) are half-day stops with fish lunches. Two nights in Odense, one day on the coast, and you have seen the island's core. Skip it if your Denmark trip is under five days and already full.
