Fruitland Park
Half a day or a stopover on the way to the Harris Chain of Lakes: Lake Griffin State Park is the draw, not the town itself.
Fruitland Park is a small, fast-growing town in Lake County, Florida, 30 miles south of Ocala. Its main attraction is Lake Griffin State Park, home to one of Florida's largest live oak trees and access to the Harris Chain of Lakes. The town itself has a few restaurants and a historic church site, but most visitors use it as a stopover or a base for boating and fishing.
