Fredericia
One night is enough: walk the ramparts, climb the White Water Tower, eat at the old harbour, then move on by train.
Fredericia is a 1650 fortress town on the Little Belt, 1 h 30 min–2 h from Copenhagen and 35 min from Aarhus. The whole point is the star-shaped rampart ring, the beach at Skærbæk and one very good restaurant. Most travellers see it in an afternoon and sleep one night.

Get around
Walk: the centre, ramparts, harbour, bars and shops are all inside a 20-minute walk. Bike: flat and well signed; bikes can be taken on trains and taxis. Taxis wait outside the station but are pricey. Car: about 2,500 free parking places, but you need a free parking disc from the tourist office.

- The station is outside the tourist core; follow Centrum signs, about 5 minutes.
- Ticket checks happen on every Danish train: buy and validate before boarding.
- The Skærbæk beach has no lifeguard.
- Many restaurants and museums close or cut hours outside summer: check before you go.
Very safe. The real risks are cycling on shared paths, cold water at Skærbæk (no lifeguard) and a quiet, early-closing centre outside summer.
