Fortuna is a small city on US 101 in Humboldt County, best known as a pit stop between Eureka and the Avenue of the Giants. Its main draw is the Eel River Brewing Company, one of the first organic breweries in the US. Most travellers pass through in under an hour; a longer stay works only if you want a cheaper hotel base than Eureka or Arcata.

Fortuna is car-dependent. US 101 runs through town; Main Street is the commercial spine. Parking is free and easy. No public transit worth using; a taxi or rideshare from Eureka costs about $30–40.
