Fort Sumner
Skip unless you're a Billy the Kid enthusiast or need a pit stop on US 60/84: the museum is the only draw, and it's a 30-minute stop.
Fort Sumner is a tiny village in southeast New Mexico, best known as the site of Billy the Kid's death and burial. The Billy the Kid Museum holds 60,000+ relics, but the town has no other major attractions. Most travellers pass through on US 60 or US 84 between Clovis and Santa Rosa.
