Fort Pierce is a small waterfront city on Florida's Treasure Coast, halfway between Vero Beach and Stuart. Downtown is compact and walkable, but the beaches, state parks and museums sit on Hutchinson Island and along US-1, so a car is the practical way to see it. It works as a one- or two-night stop on a Florida east-coast drive, not as a stand-alone week.

Get around
A car is the default: I-95, US-1 and Florida's Turnpike cross the city, and the beaches are 4–6 miles east over the North Causeway. Area Regional Transit (ART) buses run from the Intermodal Facility on Avenue D; routes cover downtown, the hospital and Port St. Lucie, but service is thin and slow for sightseeing. Downtown itself is small enough to walk.
