Flower Hill
Skip as a base unless you have a reason to be in Nassau County: it is a residential village of 4,665 people with one hotel, no train station and almost nothing open after dark.
Flower Hill is a small incorporated village on Long Island's North Shore, split between the Manhasset, Port Washington and Roslyn sides. There is no downtown and no station: you come here for a quiet bed near the Americana Manhasset, a historic walk, or a stop on the way to somewhere else. Treat it as one night, not a destination.

Get around
A car is the practical choice: two state routes (NY 25A and NY 101) cross the village and the Long Island Expressway and Northern State Parkway are close. NICE buses n20H, n20X, n21 and n23 serve the village, but they are slow and infrequent enough that most visitors drive or use rideshare. Walking works on the quiet residential streets, though many have no sidewalk.

- Street parking is also banned once snow reaches about 2 in (5 cm).
- Many residential streets have no sidewalk; walk facing traffic and wear something reflective after dark.
- Village speed limit is 25 mph (40 km/h) on village-maintained streets; speeding is the main local complaint.
- Almost nothing is open late: eat before 21:00 or drive to Roslyn or Manhasset.
